Class Descriptions

Yoga Fundamentals

Yoga Fundamentals is designed for the student brand new to yoga or new to Iyengar Yoga. You will be introduced to alignment principles in basic standing and sitting poses. Students often elect to take more than one session at this level to reinforce their learning. If you have had prior yoga experience and are not sure this is the right level for you, please contact the teacher.

Level I Yoga

Students at this level should have at least 6 months of prior yoga experience, and/or completed at least one Yoga Fundamentals class or have the teacher’s permission. This class, designed to be ongoing, will have a different emphasis each week. Basics will be reinforced and new poses, including simple inversions will be introduced. In the Iyengar tradition, it is not uncommon to practice at this level for a number of years.

Level II Yoga

Students at this level will deepen their practice, holding poses longer, and learning new poses, including simple backbends. Headstand (Salamba Sirsasana) and Shoulderstand (Salamba Sarvangasana) will be taught regularly.

Private Yoga Instruction

Please contact the instructor if you wish to schedule or learn more about private yoga instruction. Private Instruction may be appropriate:

  • To help students with health conditions that make it difficult for them to participate in group classes
  • To help students new to Iyengar Yoga work on fundamentals and enter classes where many students are continuing.
  • To help students develop sequences to help them with certain health conditions.
  • To help students develop a home practice.
